    Why Microgreens?

We started when we noticed that due to Covid and supply chain issues, our community encountered periods of time where Greenville struggled to get good green produce. We wanted to find a way to supply green produce year-round, even in difficult times. However, it had to be cost effective. Hydroponics for full heads of lettuce wasn't workable, at least not to start. It takes too long, and costs too much. Microgreens are efficient, by way of time, cost and nutritional quality. And so, we got the equipment and supplies and put six months into understanding the process, selecting plants and adjusting a growing pattern that will allow us to offer our products reliably. In time, our efficiency will continue to improve and we can adjust to precisely what the community prefers.

Microgreens are young vegetables, herbs and even edible trees, that have root, stem and cotyledons, but no, or only tiny "true leaves"

You might get started with microgreens because you are looking to improve your diet. Microgreens are a low volume and nutritionally dense way to improve regular dishes. They are popular additions to smoothies. Microgreens are a great addition to restricted diets like Keto, Low Carb, or Vegetarian/Vegan. You will enjoy the flavors which are often similar to the grown plant but with subtle differences, like being less bitter or milder, while some have their own unique taste.

Microgreens are different from sprouts as they are older, non-fermented, and are harvested above the soil to not include the seed/root in the product.

We are developing a monthly subscription service, with weekly delivery; for the Greenville area. You select the products that you want. Deliveries are on Wednesdays. We supply a cooler and freezer pack to put out on your porch to receive your microgreens and text you a reminder the night before. Allow up to 14 days to build in your trays.

Some microgreens take longer to grow than others, and the age of a microgreen affects the flavor.

No need to worry about throwing away yet another plastic container. At Asbury Greens we use corn-based plastic clamshells and sugar cane paper labels. These biodegrade in under a year and you can even toss them in your own compost pile. However, keep in mind that corn plastic begins to melt at 105° F. Please store out of direct sunlight.

Finally, Asbury Greens strives to provide our community with the best quality green produce possible. This includes using certified organic soil with every grow and never using GMO seeds.
